FAQ

  • The current installation is PLUME from January 15 - April 28. This location will close April 28, 2024. We look forward to seeing you in the Original Studio!

(The former immersive art experience was Flourish then Cocoon.)

Installations will generally rotate every 6-12 months. Stay up to date with the latest from the studio on instagram.

  • Like the original studio, the Stateroom offers 3 walls of windows so natural light can flood in. With a tall white dome ceiling there is also lovely natural looking white LED lighting around the edges of the entire room to enhance a bright white softbox effect. The light switch is located on right as you enter the room. While we love natural light this helps to enhance the studio and lessen harsh shadows around the room.

Sunrise and sunset times vary throughout the year. The back of the studio (when you enter on the left) faces 140 degrees South East so it will have morning light exposure. The window side of the Stateroom facing Charter Street is around 220 degrees South West so more afternoon light exposure. The front side (overlooking State Street) faces 320 degrees North West where the most evening light enters. As the Stateroom is on the tallest floor of the building there is unobstructed light on all three sides.

  • Rates include private access of the entire stateroom. This new sister studio shares some similarities to the original — natural light, unique architecture dating back to the 1700’s, soaring 15’ ceilings, 3 walls of windows, beautiful hardwood floors and 1,500 square feet of space — all conveniently located in downtown Newburyport.

This Stateroom is open 7 days a week (not just creative endeavors) but for events, elopements, yoga/wellness classes, garden parties, art gallery pop ups, networking, workshops, gatherings, celebrations, film, photo and video shoots, dances, intimate dinner parties, etc…

Set-up and clean-up is your responsibility during your allotted time. Please arrive & pack up on-time to be respectful of others. Additional time can be purchased prior an appointment ($100 for 50 extra minutes.) This can be added before or after your rental time, simply email the studio with your preference.

  • Click BOOK here or in the top navigation. Please note, there are now two studio locations — make sure you are booking the correct location (they are across the street from one another)!

This is a professional space and is not available to rent for children’s birthday parties or loud celebrations. If you anticipate your event being larger than 20 people please email the studio for permission prior to booking and include information about your event.

The week of your rental you will receive a text with your unique code which will allow you to access the studio for your reservation. If you have a last minute rental request please email our studio manager Katelyn@theNBPTstudio.com.

  • You are welcome to freely book online if your event is under 20 people. Permission is needed for larger numbers. Please contact the studio manger Katelyn@theNBPTstudio.com with more information regarding your event.

(Events over 80 people are not permitted.)

  • Parking is available right outside and around the corner of the building (free 2-hour street parking). Signs are posted; park at your own risk for longer time periods. There are also a handful of paid 3-hr parking lots within walking distance and a parking garage ($1 per hour) located at 83 Merrimac Street down the street where you can park all day!

  • The Stateroom will always feature a rotating exhibit of hanging immersive artwork in the center of the stateroom. Otherwise it is a blank slate for you. We do have some props + equipment you can use listed below.

Please keep in mind there is no elevator in the building so we discourage bringing in heavy, cumbersome props to avoid bumps and bruises to the walls and maneuvering up a narrow stairway.

If any items go missing or damages are incurred during your rental time you will be billed separately to have it fixed and/or replaced. Please treat the space like you own it. Thank you!

    • 1 large immersive art installation in the center

    • 1 SONOS speaker

    • 1 modern, five seater white boucle couch

    • 1 small folding step stool

    • 1 mirror

    • 1 changing area screen

    • 1 white trash can

    • 1 small vintage chair

    • 1 contemporary white boucle accent chair

    • 1 garment rack with wooden hangers

  • We have a strict no refund policy for any and all cancellations. If you or your client has to cancel at any point we’ll work with you to reschedule your rental for a $100 rescheduling fee. (Your studio credit will never expire if you wish to reschedule at a later date.) Please email the studio and we will rebook your date!

*If canceling or rescheduling less than 30 days prior to your rental during our seasonal Holiday setups you will be held liable for the full value of your rental and will not be issued studio credit.

  • The address is 59 State Street, 3rd floor, Newburyport, MA (green doors). Go up two tall flights of stairs and the studio door is on your right. Keep in mind there is no elevator in the building and one narrow stairway so we do not recommend bringing any cumbersome props unless you want the exercise.

There will be a lock box on the outside of the building with a key inside that will give you access to the building on the weekends during the day of your rental. (A large bathroom is located on the 2nd floor around the corner.)

  • While we want you to have a good time there is absolutely no open flame or smoking allowed under any circumstances (this includes smoke and fog machines). If we do see/smell/find that you have smoked in the studio, you will be issued a $500 fine.

To ensure our white floors stay as pristine as possible we welcome you to be barefoot or wear socks / slipper. No outdoor shoes are allowed.

The Stateroom is also not suitable for young children, toddler events or loud celebrations. Toddlers must be kept under a watchful eye as to not disrupt or alter the installation at ALL times.

Cumbersome props are discouraged because of the two stairways up to the Stateroom. Helium balloons are also discouraged as there is no way to gain access to them above the installation grid structure if they float away.

Lastly, please no loitering in the common areas of the building. If you arrive before your rental time we encourage you to discover all the wonderful restaurants, shops and waterfront boardwalk downtown.

  • Of course! If you need to change the temperature when you arrive (the Google Nest thermostat is to your right when you enter.) Do note it does not rotate or turn. Learn here how to adjust the temperature to your liking. Please make sure to leave the studio at a comfortable temperature when you leave. Thank you!

  • Please keep in mind the studio is not childproof — children and pets must be supervised at all times (I have a 2 year old and am fully aware of their destructive capabilities). A pack play is available in the studio to be used during your rental for ease of mind.

This is a professional space with expensive furniture an a delicate installation. If any damages are incurred during your rental time you will be billed separately to have it fixed or replaced. Renters will be held accountable if children damage the studio.

    Pups must have clean paws.

  • The Sonos speaker is located on the left windowsill when you arrive. Connect your phone to the WiFi network you were given. (Please be mindful of the volume level during regular business hours.)

    • Spotify users Open the app, click Devices under settings. Click Devices Menu > AirPlay or Bluetooth and select ‘Office’ under Speakers & TVs.

    • Pandora users Open the app and start playing music. On the bottom right hand corner will be the airplay button (a rectangle with an arrow) click this and select ‘Office’ under Speakers & TVs.

    • Sonos users Open the Sonos app. When you see the message “Sonos found” at the top of the screen, tap Let’s Connect. Once you see “Connected to your Sonos system,” select Done. Enjoy!

  • Setting up and breaking down what is needed for your experience must be accounted for in the amount of time you reserve. Please book more time to ensure you are in and out on-time. (If you book a 2pm rental time for example, do not advertise your experience to start at 2pm so you have enough time to setup, read the check in sheet when you arrive and get familiar with the studio.

You are responsible for following the rental contract rules and authorize the studio to charge your card $50 if the door is left unlocked when you depart, if you exceed your rental time or leave the studio in poor condition. If you leave later then anticipated your code will not work but you can still lock the studio by pressing the red dot on the keypad.

For clean-up, please make sure the studio looks like it did when you arrived and take out what you bring in (like camping!) — including any clothes, hangers, boxes, props, coffee, florals, trash, etc…

No furniture or equipment is allowed to leave the studio. If any items go missing or damages are incurred during your rental time you will be billed separately to have it fixed and/or replaced. Please treat the space like you own it.

  • There are security cameras mounted in the stateroom for safety and accountability purposes. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. As a women owned studio no one else has access to this footage and no cameras point in the designated changing area.

  • The Stateroom is available for rent 7 days a week from 8am-6pm. An additional 50 minutes for $100 can be made when you book! (If you’ve added extra time to your rental when booking simply email the studio with your preference of adding this time before or after your rental period.)

  • Email Katelyn@thenbptstudio.com to schedule a tour if you’re interested in booking the studio for an event. We will also host Open Houses throughout the year. Stay up to date on when these may be coming up on instagram.

A message from the owner

KELSY STROMSKI

You may be new to The Newburyport Studios but for those who’ve become regulars I want to say how much I truly appreciate and thank you for supporting my small businesses and young female creatives through the annual Favor the Brave Travel Scholarship which launched last year. There were many unknowns when I decided to open but I have been continuously impressed with the level of talent, energy and inspiration you bring to the studio. Not to mention the brands of numerous small business owners, freelancers and entrepreneurs you've helped elevate. It has been an honor over the past two years to share my studio with you, especially when so much has happened — from renaming and rebranding my own design business (Favor the Brave), to navigating a pandemic, becoming a first time mom, and now for this brand new addition…

The Newburyport Studio Stateroom is a different, immersive art installation concept for the local community. I’ve been secretly obsessing about this passion project for a while so when I was approached by the new owner of a historic building to expand I took another leap of faith and said yes because it ended up being the perfect location for this wild idea to flourish.

I look forward to celebrating this exciting new chapter with you!

Cheers,

— Kelsy Stromski, Owner & Creative Directress of Favor the Brave and The Newburyport Studios
